“In The Can: Singers for Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada”

January 31st, 2018

Lula Lounge

1585 Dundas St. W, Toronto

Event founder and Toronto songstress Melissa Lauren will be joined by national musical fixtures and friends such as Ori Dagan, Alex Pangman, Barbra Lica, Devin Cuddy, Genevieve Marentette, Murray Foster (Great Big Sea), and more this Wednesday, January 31st, 2018 at Toronto’s Lula Lounge for ‘In The Can: Singers for Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada.’

The second annual event will feature each musician performing two songs, along with some surprise guests and a silent auction. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada.

“The idea is to invite singers to debut, showcase or workshop, so to speak, something that’s on its way in or out of the studio,” says Melissa on the meaning of the name ‘In The Can’, whose event origins grew from her own candid and heart-bursting efforts. “Having found out I was expecting a baby, the happy surprise brought with it some additional and unexpected emotions. Not only were my maternal instincts in place for my own growing family, but they were rippling externally in what could be called as sometimes disproportionate ways! All of a sudden, it felt like everyone was a baby in need of mothering.

“As someone who always shied away from children, this was a jarring adjustment. I decided to channel it productively into calling on my musical friends for a night of song to benefit a Foundation I have some personal ties to. As emotional an issue it is, I hope that year two continues in its tradition of making the evening fun and joyful.”
